How many in the last century have died because of a lack of arable land or severe weather? The percentage of people is less because we develop new technologies. One example is high tech fabrics making it more comfortable to live in extremely cold and hot areas. Of course HVAC technology is really important. Adaptation also means we can help breed animals that can adapt too. We have done just that with livestock.
